Personal Book Challenge

I always feel like a douche when I go to the library. I know everyone goes in to just get what they want and leave, but I mean, I don’t even like standing in line to check out my book.

I had to check out The Glass Menagerie for class. I also wanted to check something else out for funsies, since I quit trying to read House of Leaves (for now anyway). I wish there were some sort of survey thing you could take at the library that would automatically recommend books that you may like that are similar to things you have
already read and liked.

But they don’t have that. That would have made my life easier. And more interesting. I just ended up checking out the book I needed and not anything else.

On my way home, I realized that me checking out more books would be like me buying books that are just sitting on my bookshelf. So I posed a challenge to myself … Read every book on this bookshelf (including House of Leaves).

Behind those shower gels, body creams, and perfume boxes are more books that have been purchased by me and have never been opened.

I’ve read some of them, and by some I mean like three. Or five. But yes, I will read every single book (except the texts books) on this bookshelf. I'll most likely reread the books I already read.

I love this challenge. You have more will power than I do. I usually just wait till I have collected a bunch of books then find a used book store and sell them and get some I am going to read. Good Luck.

I used to be a notorious buyer of books I never read. I'm working on this now. It's my goal to finish all the books I own before I leave for grad school.

There's a site you can use that, when you type in what you're reading, will tell you what you might like to read next. http://www.whatshouldireadnext.com/

I wish I could add such a reading list to my life but a lot of books on my shelf are my husbands and I'm not a huge Stephen King fan.

Thanks for the support guys. It's going to be hard NOT to buy a book, considering Borders is closing down and there's one right by my school.

Alicia, thanks for the link! I'm so going to use that when I'm done with all these books.

I love buying books. It just makes me so happy. And there is this tiny little used bookstore near my parents house in the burbs that is ridiculously cheap. Everytime I go visit them I get like 10 books. I think I've got about a hundred unread books now that I really need to get cracking on.

Or keeping writing blogs... both work.

Great challenge! See, I usually just check books out, and if I like them afterwards, I'll go buy them to reread later. But I'm a huge reader.

I love this idea though. Best of luck to you! =]

I am really happy I discovered your website. However, I would like to see more details about this topic. I'm going to keep coming back here.
